Researching your family history

If a member of your family has been baptised, married or buried at St Mary's Addington, we may be able to search our parish records for you.

Addington has surviving records from 1559 (Burials) and 1561 (Baptisms and marriages), although there are some dates for which the registers are missing or incomplete.

The original registers listed below are held at Surrey History Centre, Woking which is our diocesan record office.

Members of the public can view the registers at the Surrey History Centre on microfilm during their opening hours. Details of the service provided at the centre can be found at on the Surrey County Council website.

The Surrey Registers Association worked with local Vicars and Rectors to record contents of these registers up to 1812 and Addington was included in this project. These records can be searched by our archivist.

St Mary's holds its own transcriptions of some of its post 1812 records. See below for details of current holdings:

In 1984, East Surrey Family History Society surveyed the churchyard and recorded the memorial inscriptions found there. These can be searched as well as churchyard plans dating from around 1911.

Our Honorary Archivist is also available to carry out research using our own and other relevant records to provide you with further information about previous Addington residents.

There is a charge for searching our resources, please contact the parish office on 01689 842167 or by e-mail: stmaryblessedvirgin@tiscali.co.uk for further details.
