St Mary's Development Trust

What is the Trust?

St Mary's Development Trust was set up in 1983 and its objectives are:

  • The preservation, repair, development, improvement, upkeep, beautification and restoration of the church and of the churchyards and grounds and parish buildings of the church.
  • Any other charitable ecclesiastical purpose affecting the parish or any part thereof.
  • The Trust meets at least 4 times a year and looks at ways to raise funds for meeting the above objectives, supporting the work of St Mary's and also to consider any applications for use of available funds.

    Expenditure

Below are some examples of our expenditure or 'putting back into St. Mary's':

  • Church exterior lighting - over £12,000.
  • Pew cushions - approx. £3,000.
  • Church sound system - circa £866
  • .
  • Quinquenial work (repairs to church) - £3,000.
  • Funding Hall repairs - over £13,000.
  • Purchasing of 2 robust Marquees.
  • Purchasing a portable electric Generator to support the provision of refreshments at outdoor events
  • Getting St Mary's on the wider tourist radar - Do you know the way to St Mary's? We're now officially on the tourist map with our own "brown signs".
  • What do 2008 and 2009 hold for the Development Trust?

Challenges- with fundraising to embark upon and ensuring we spend our money wisely.

Supporting the church - in what it chooses to do and in 2008/9 this will not only be by the provision of monies, but also in practical ways too such as more provision of equipment - we hope to purchase a portable Public Address system so they'll be no excuses for not hearing the speeches at fund raising events any more!

Finding additional help - The trust is a small core of people who like all the church organisations fit the work they do around their normal busy schedules - volunteers are always welcome and we don't bite - honest.

If you'd like to be involved in supporting the trust, then please get in contact - we'd love to hear from you.
