The Church's year begins on Advent Sunday (usually at the beginning of December of at the very end of November). We begin to look to the coming of Jesus Christ, and celebrate with lights and with Advent carols.
The church celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Traditional carols are sung and the children celebrate with Nativity plays and a Crib Service. The Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve is a solemn service that begins the celebrations.
The church celebrates the coming of the Wise Men and the revelation of Jesus to all people.
Candlemas marks the end of the Christmas season - it is a lot longer than most people think! The Crib is put away until next Christmas and we recall the time when the infant Jesus was taken to the Temple by his parents. He was recognised by the ancient preist Zechariah and the prophet Anna.
